About Exploration of Sources
Introduction
Availability and Accessibility
Unfortunately,
even
though
mankind
was
and
still
is
keen
to
preserve
history,
at
the
same
time
humans
are
very
successful
in
destroying
historical
documentation,
resulting
in
many
sources
either
been
lost
or
their
wherabouts
no
longer
been
known,
sources
been
preserved
only
in
parts
or
been
irrecoverable
destroyed
due
to
war,
fleeing
and
expulsion.
Further,
natural
and
other
disasterous
events
as
well
as
criminal
acts
are
reducing
the
„inventory“
of
sources
every
now
and
then.
Regardless,
nowadays,
basically
the
following
sources
(available
either
physically
or
digitally)
can
be
helpful
while
searching
for
family
ancestors and descendants:
Archives
with
a
more
or
less
rich
inventory
often
can
be
found
in
communities
and
at
regional,
state
or
national
level.
Also
the
church
was
an
early
archivist,
who
registered
notable
events
of
the
day
even
before the state administration started to do so.
In
case
one
cannot
or
does
not
want
to
take
the
time
to
research
on
its
own
and
on
location,
the
service
of
an
archivist
on
location,
which
often
comes
with
a
cost,
can
be
used,
where
it
may
take
some
time
until
ones
research
request
ends
up
on
the
top
of
the
pile
of
to
be
finally
processed.
